The exhibition WEMEN spans four floors of the design Hotel Nhow Milano, curated by Elisabetta Scantamburlo, it runs from November 2018 - March 2019.
"I am a man who loved a woman created by a man" . So says René Gallimard in the film M. Butterfly (Cronenberg, 1993). The illusion of the perfect woman built by a man, because sometimes it is just the opposite sex to best represent the essence of feminine or masculine. Drag queen, drag king, sex changes, transgender, women managers posing as men, men going to the beautician and shaving (... girls who are boys who like boys to be girls who do boys like they're girls ... the Blur sang). The boundaries between genres have never been so explicitly fluid. They are all indicators of explorations and discoveries that involve
the deepest areas of one's being and which emerge on the surface in the most diverse ways. wemen it is proposed as an attempt to photograph the two genres, as they define themselves and how they appear, in their genre and in the relationship between them. We touch on the differences, real or residual of a cultural heritage, but above all we investigate the ways in which the awareness of how much they are more similar than we sometimes think is more and more.
