A Meridian Marker features in this photograph which is part of Richard Heeps' 36 Minutes in Cambridgeshire series. This humble line marking surrounded by grass, belies its importance as representative of the line from which every place on the Earth is measured in terms of its angle east or west from it.

This is a photograph from a collection of 36, born from an idea to produce a set of photographs that followed The Meridian Line and its route through Cambridgeshire, one for each minute of Latitude. The images would go through, over and under whatever came in the path of the camera’s lens and through the Fens would involve people and communities throughout Cambridgeshire, many in isolated locations.
