Bonneville was the once racetrack home to the land speed record and as drag racing and hot rodding fan I was drawn to the mecca of speed.
As a drag racing photographer I was keen to photograph cars with an interesting backdrop, and the landscape of Bonneville Salt Flats certainly provides that. On the one hand you almost have this white open air studio, but in the background you have a hilly desert landscape, you feel like you are on another planet, creating a cinematic sci-fi effect, which combined with cars which look like rockets, lunar landers and space buggies, your imagination can run wild. This ties this in with the ongoing theme in my work making you questions what is real or not real. I have forever been inspired by the moon landings of my childhood and films like Stanley Kubrick's 2001 Space Odessey. The cartoonish character of the Raspberry Rocket car is enhanced by the wide angle perspective I chose.
