I found this foyer when shooting in Milan. I was so captivated by it I kept returning to it again and again, capturing it in daylight and after dark. There is something cinematic about it which is what drew me to it at the time so I am pleased that in making the darkroom print the final result has intensified that effect. To me this picture, a symmetrical corridor leading to two offset doors, lends to creating many stories.
This image illustrates how many sensitive choices must be made when it comes to the analogue printing an image. In a completely darkened room you control the colour balance and density. You then emerge into light to assess the image and decided what adjustments you want to make when you go back into the dark to achieve the final visual effect of the image. It is very different process to making a digital photographic artwork.
